The Rinjani trek centre is located on the top of the Senaru village, the village is the main gate way to get Rinjani National Park the most popular start for the three days trekking to the second highest Indonesia's volcano its about 3.726m above sea level.surrounding the slope of volacano is reverred as a sacred place and the abode of Gods, within the spectacular crater, Segara Anak lake is the destination by many pilgrims placed the offering in the water and bathe away disease the nearby hot spring.
The village of Senaru on the slope of Mt.Rinjani stretches up a hillside spur along a winding road above Bayan. its a scenic 2.5 hours drive from Mataram City or Senggigi area. there are offer many accomodation in simple but pretty homestay with lovely views. For further sightseeing there is waterfalls called Sindang Gila waterfalls, located at about 600m above sea level the waterfalls is an easy 20 minutes walk down a graded trail and steps from Senaru Villages. A pleasant alternative return road along the edge of the steep valley following the irrigation canal. Another Senaru's waterfalls is called Tiu Kelep couple hours walk upriver from Sindang Gila, the tropical forrest is rewarded by beauty of te waterfalls. this waterfalls believed by local people who every time you swim behind the main waterfalls people become a year younger. The third waterfalls is called Betara Lenjang is a true adventures strictly for the rock climbers accompanied by local guide and equipment.Wildlife
During early morning and evening walks in Senaru Village you are likely to see the birds, butterflies and at least one of the two species of monkey who live in the surrounding forest, more elusive is the rare Silvered Leaf monkey and also known as the black monkey which is often be glimpsed in the forest arround the waterfalls.Traditional Village
A visit to the Senaru Traditional Village situated next to the Rinjani trek center where the mountain trail begins, the Sasak inhabitants are the cultural guardians of Mount Rinjani and its surrounding forest and safe guards its spiritual values. Local people guidance visit included opportunities to experience the villager's daily lifes, visit the thatched houses garden of fruits and spices. for a romantic highlight to be shown the sunset view where you may see the tropical sun setting againts the distant skyline of Bali island.
The Rinjani Trek is a challenging mountain walk and visitors must be prepared with well equipment, warm and windproof clothings are need. Mt.Rinjani can attract severe storms, light and strong winds. when the weather is normal the sun is intense and the night frosty. part of the trail are steep and sleepery. beware of bad weather and risk of exposure to the wet and cold.beware of snakes and stinging of insects and plant, leeches can be nuisance in the wet season. Although Mt.Rinjani has not erupted in recorded history there is Mt.Baru about 2351m height in the crater lake is an active volcano. it last erupted dramatically in 1994. visitors can be check the notice boards for recent hazards and take advice by local guide or park staff.
